Deer Creek Friends begin with a hymn (singing) and educational lesson, followed by a period of silent Meeting for Worship.
During worship, we gather in the Meeting room and settle into silence. Friends believe God speaks directly to each person, so we do not have a pastor, and our worship does not follow a formal service with sermons or creeds. Instead, we wait together in expectant silence, listening for the guidance of the Spirit.
At times, someone may feel led to share a message aloud. When this happens, the person speaks (or even sings!), and afterward we return to silence, leaving space between messages to reflect on what has been shared. Some Meetings may remain unbroken silence, while in others, several may speak.
At the close of worship, Friends shake hands ("Rise of Meeting"). Friends are invited to share joys or sorrows to be held in prayer, followed by greetings and announcements. Visitors are encouraged to introduce themselves and sign our guest book.
